Dear friends,
As you know, the election for offices in the City of Boston is next Tuesday, November 3, 2009. First and foremost, we hope you will take the time to vote. It is only with a strong turnout, that we can send a message to our elected officials.
As you consider your choices for the various office, we hope you will ask the candidates for their positions on the following questions:
Mayor Menino, in a meeting with BNU members this past July, indicated, that his interpretation and expectation of the condition that the Zoning Commission place on the BC IMP approval, is that a dormitory will be constructed prior to the start of construction on any of the other projects proposed in the IMP.
1. Will you support Mayor Menino’s position on the requirement to construct a new dormitory prior to any other construction proposed in the IMP?
2. Will you work to ensure that the process of developing a dormitory at the More Hall site is open and transparent and includes strong community participation from the outset with the goal of developing the site to maximize the number of beds at that location?
3. Will you demand that the Parks Department enforce the existing laws to ensure that the stone wall and tress along Commonwealth Avenue are preserved?
4. Will you demand that BC pay full taxes (based on the sale price) on 2000 Commonwealth Avenue in perpetuity and that these payments will not impact any other payments the institution has or will commit to paying to the City? Will you also demand that any institution purchasing property in the City commit to the same?
We hope you will contact not only the District City Council candidates, but, also the Councilor-At-Large candidates. For more information on the candidates and how to contact them, please click here.
